Vaulting Shoes

Beginning vaulters do not need vaulting shoes.  Shoes which allow free movement of the ankle and are soft on the horse will work fine - some tennis shoes and tevas, for example.

When parents are sure children are going to stay with the sport for a while, you might consider vaulting shoes.  Team members must wear them.

The link below is to the largest vaulting equipment supplier in the United States. (Merrill Leffmann, owner and instructor of Sun Vaulters, is one of the partners in this two-moms-and-a-pop business.)

Vaulting Equipment

Vaulting equipment consists of a specialized leather roller with handles called a 'surcingle', a pad to protect the horse, side reins to keep his head in alignment, a bridle and a lunge line.

The surcingle pictured above is one of many varieties now available.
